Karin B. Refos is a Sr. Communication expert and is the founder and CEO of STAS International, Strategic Communication and Branding (www.stasinternational.com) in Suriname. STAS International is, since its establishment, the Strategic Authority on Communication and Branding in Suriname.

After her studies PR and Communication and Bachelor in Education Karin was trained in Personal Leadership, Political Strategy, Policy- and Project development as well as Lobby in the Netherlands.

From 1996 she was appointed as the Regional Coordinator on Gender policy for the Dutch Speaking Caribbean and amongst several gender-projects, established the gender bureaus for the specific governments in Suriname and Aruba.

In 2004 she established the National Public Music School (www.volksmuziekschool.com) and the Pink Ribbon Movement for breast cancer in Suriname in 2012 (www.pinkribbonsuriname.com) where there was an increase of 300% more women per policlinic per day for taking a mammography after her huge national campaign “Breast cancer, Beat it”.

In May 2014 she initiated, coordinated and implemented the huge campaign “More Women in Leadership” related to the national elections in Suriname in 2015, which resulted in the increase from 0,5% to 29,8% women in Parliament as well as the increase in different boards, as ministers and other all high positions (www.ookzij.sr).

For the national elections in 2020, she initiated the “Balance in 2020” campaign to make sure more women and youngsters penetrate parliament.

She is a well-known motivational speaker on Ethical Personal Leadership, a Personal Coach and was pointed the Communication Personality of 2016 in Suriname. Karin is also the mother of Kenzo, the STAS International Creative Director and Dayle, a psychologist and artist.
